Performance Center design team begins analysis

Asheville Design Center update on I-26 talks with DOT

The Asheville Design Center recently met with the N.C. Department of Transportation to discuss progress on the I-26 connector. The group emerged with news....a shortened, less expensive bridge and the news that noise studies indicates 4B will be quieter than other plans.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation....says it will reconsider a design that has I-26 back beneath Patton...."the DOT is certainly working with us to make 4B the best it can be"...The recent change, may help....give the design even more momentum.


I-26 construction delayed a year; Design Center says it was shut out of decision

The North Carolina Department of Transportation has decided to push back construction of the Interstate 26 connector by one year—until 2014....to further study the highway's impacts on the area.

...at its June 27 meeting, Council was not yet ready to give up hope on the plan that was devised by the volunteer efforts of local architects and engineers.

Design group only interested in what is best for Asheville
A recent letter in the AC-T suggested that only civil engineers should be permitted to plan for the I-26 connector project. As a planner and as a member of the Asheville Design Center group looking at the NCDOT proposals, I’d like to respond to this letter.
